Kings to Honor Local African-American Community Leaders with Dream All-Star Awards

17th Annual Black History Month Celebration Tips Off on Feb. 3 against Phoenix

Sacramento, Calif. – The Sacramento Kings will honor the contributions of many African-American leaders in the community and throughout history during the team’s month-long celebration. With nine February home games, the team will continue to celebrate diversity with special Dream All-Star community awards, community group performances, and educational opportunities for fans to learn more about contributions to society.

“We’re proud to welcome Kings fans to the first Black History Month celebration at Golden 1 Center and privileged to recognize and honor the many contributions of African-American leaders throughout the Sacramento community with this year’s Dream All-star Awards, said Kings President, Chis Granger.

The Kings Foundation Dream All-star awards will recognize local influential African-American community leaders for their achievements, accomplishments, and efforts to make positive impacts throughout the region during each of the nine home games throughout the month. On February 3, the Kings will honor this year’s first Dream All-star recipient, Khalil Fuller.

Fuller is an entrepreneur with a passion for driving positive change in education. His organization, Learn Fresh, makes math fun for kids and keeps them engaged in school. They have reached over 45,000 students nationwide through their NBA Math Hoops program.

Collis Temple, father of Kings Guard Garett Temple, will also join the team for a special ceremony. Collis made history at Louisiana State University when he stepped on the hardwood as the university’s first African-American team member. His son Garrett proudly followed in his footsteps.

In addition to the presentation of the Dream All-star Awards, each home game throughout the month will contain special in-game programming, tributes, and remembrance of influential activists, leaders, and athletes throughout the Black community. Hip hop pioneers, The Sugarhill Gang will launch several unique halftime performances throughout the month. A few eyewitnesses to history – including Jessie Owens’ granddaughter, Gina Hemphill-Strachan – will join the team to share their first-hand personal stories of triumph and change.

A special art exhibit will call Golden 1 Center home for the month. The Crocker Art Museum and Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Center will curate a mini-museum displaying artwork, artifacts, and photos from influential local and national figures. Fans are welcomed to visit the selection on the Plaza Level at Section 111.

Fans will also be able to impact local organizations that support local African-American initiatives directly by purchasing 50/50 raffle tickets at select games throughout the month of February. Volunteers from various non-profits will join the Kings to wear green bibs and sell raffle tickets at each game.

DeMARCUS COUSINS NAMED 2017 WESTERN CONFERENCE NBA ALL-STAR

demarcuscousins.jpg

SACRAMENTO, CA —- Today, the NBA named Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins as a reserve to the 2017 Western Conference All-Star Team. The honor marks Cousins’ third straight All-Star selection and the first time a Kings player will participate in three consecutive All-Star games since Peja Stojakovic earned the honors (2002-04). Cousins is the sixth player during the Sacramento-era and 23rd in franchise history to represent the Kings in the All-Star Game. He joins Mitch Richmond (six), Chris Webber (four) and Stojakovic (three) as the only Kings to make multiple All-Star appearances in the Sacramento era.

Currently playing in his seventh NBA season, Cousins is averaging a career-high 28.0 points (.449 FG%, .365 3pt%, .773 FT%), 10.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.4 steals, 1.2 blocks and 34.4 minutes per game in 44 contests, leading the Kings in scoring, rebounding, assists, and blocks. Cousins, along with Russell Westbrook, are the only players averaging at least 28 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

In the month of November, Cousins scored 30 or more points in four straight games in a span between Nov. 23 and Nov. 28–the first instance a Kings player has registered 30 or more points in four consecutive games since Chris Webber did so in 2001.

Cousins amassed 55 points on 17-of-28 shooting against the Portland Trail Blazers at Golden 1 Center on Dec. 20, the second time in his career achieving the 50-point plateau. His accompanying 13 rebounds and three blocks earned him the distinction as the only player in league history to record at least 55 points, 10 rebounds, five made three-pointers and three blocks in a contest. The Kings all-time leader in rebounds during the Sacramento-era, Cousins appears among NBA leaders in several categories this season, ranking fifth in scoring, 12th in rebounding and first in assists among big men.

2015 NBA Storylines – The Lake Show

The NBA 2015 season is officially in motion. Game one marks the start of the endless optimism fans have for their team. Regardless of roster, competition, coaching changes and injuries, the goal is to be champs. The Lakers have gone under construction and emerge this year with promise and intrigue. The comeback is on for Kobe, mind set unchanged and determine to reassert himself in the discussion for one of the top talents in the league.

As usual the competition is killin in the west. The Lakers are sitting at 2-9. No game in this league can be called an automatic win, unless it’s the warriors. But the next game against the winless 76ers should be a winnable game for the Lakers.

It’s disappointing to see the rookie D’Angelo Russell spending most of his time on the bench in the 4th quarter. Mistakes as a rookie are expected, but its up to the coach to correct them. Byron Scott has to give him the chance to pay through these struggles. Take a look at other draft standouts; they seem to be adapting well. Okafor and Towns are both averaging double figures. It comes down to having the opportunity to play and work through rookie mistakes

It’s still to early in the season to make any definitive predictions about any outcome. The only question is can the crack the top eight in the west?

Conclusion

Can the Lakers make the playoffs in the west?

Los Angeles Lakers: 24-58 (predictions for BDL)

Give the rookie some run

Pro Principles Feature: An American Perspective Pt. 2 – Kuruption Ain’t Nothing New

fifa article pic .jpg

Listening to music seems to create a productive environment when looking through articles. Incidentally, Kurupt’s album, Kuruption, was banging through the speakers when researching articles about Sep Batter and alleged Kuruption.  The result, c = k.

Sep Batter is FIFA’s head honcho/Kapo/Don. The articles detail the investigation into a questionable fund transfer between FIFA’ s kurrent president Sepp Blatter and this French guy Michel Platini who is looking to replace Sepp Blatter as president of FIFA.

THE RUNDOWN: In 2011, Blatter authorized a payment to Platini for work duties karried out in previous years while Platini worked under Sepp Blatter (from 98-02). Platini claims the 2 million Swiss francs payment was for unpaid salary. On October 8th  2015, both Blatter and Platini were placed on a 90-day suspension after the Swiss government initiated an investigation. Neither one plans to resign from their kurrent positions as high-level soccer officials. Falsification of documents and accounts regarding the 2mill fund transfer has also been alleged.

In my opinion, which is in no way an indictment of their actions, both guys look like two kurupt white dudes; (A krude description, based on pictures I saw). These individuals are in the perfect position to get over on FIFA and earn illicit income. A position where kash flow is high and it seems, accountability is low. In general I kould kare less how an individual earns money, illegal or legal. But I kan’t agree with actions that affect the integrity of the game. Soccer’s global impression breeds kuruption. There are “well known” kountries willing to pay for hosting major events. On the other end of the spectrum, lesser know kountries willing to pay for exposure and recognition.

Konclusion:

  • I was listening to Kurupt when I started this article.
  • Kuruption ain’t new

Title: When nostalgia hurts your pockets

These days it’s easy to relive your younger years through your sneaker collection. They remind you of where you were or a game you played in with some heat on the court. In my opinion Nike has cornered the market by rapidly releasing “retro” shoes. Trying to keep up with al the heat gets hard for me, cause I ain’t got it like that, yet.

This week I came across an article on Kicksonfire.com written by some dude called Juanofakind. The article is entitled – Jordan Brand Is Making Nostalgia An Expensive Commodity. He goes on to talk about how he felt when he first saw the Air Jordan 17

That is a classic shoe. I can remember going to my cousin’s house, and he opened up the silver case to show me what he had. It was like looking at some top secret FBI type stuff.

However, for the average Joe, it’s a little taxing to include these memorable shoes in your collection. Jordans have already gone up to 180-90. A new pair foams (see Pro Principles Oct Shoe Calendar) and the soon be released Air Jordan 17 are hitting for 250 + tax. Keep it a buck; it’s hard to justify the buy.

Conclusion

Check out the Article on KicksonFire.com (link Below)

Are the 17s re-releasing with the silver briefcase?

How do you feel about the high prices?

Jordan is really taxing the consumer, but ill probably buy a few pairs soon
